Celebrating Scott

If you watched along while my town took the "Million Dollar Neighborhood" challenge this fall, you definitely would have met Julie Cooper... Mom of Sam, Widow of Scott. I hate that word; Widow. Although I'm sure few people hate it more than Julie.

A year ago this month, Scott was tragically ripped from the lives of his wife and children. Always a proponent for Cancer research, Scott spent the years he was with Julie doing the CIBC Run for the Cure and fighting against breast cancer. Not nearly enough time, though, as in April 2012 he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and passed only a few short weeks later. With a barely one year old at home, Julie has kept moving forward amidst the greatest of tragedies, she has put on a brave face and kept moving. Most of us wouldn't be able to do the same, I'm sure.

To celebrate Scott's life, and continue his legacy, Julie, her friends and family, have waged war on cancer, the vicious villain who has taken so much from their lives. Well before Scott's death they participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure, fighting breast cancer and raising money for research to find the cause of this terrible disease that has taken the lives of so many.

Cooper's Troopers were formed and this year, their 2nd year participating, we are throwing not one, but TWO charity events to raise money towards their team.

The one thing Scott wouldn't want is people sadly remembering his life... he'd want people to Party! So, party we will! On Friday April 26th we will be holding a FUNdraiser and Dance, complete with live band, great music and of course, lots of drinking! We will be celebrating in style with a silent auction, raffles and food. There is limited capacity, so get your ticket's fast, as they're selling like hotcakes!

The next day we will be holding a Euchre Tournament and Games Day in celebration of Scott, with all proceeds also going to Cooper's Troopers and the CIBC Run for the Cure. There will be two Euchre Tournaments as well as a bevvy of other games to be played and prizes to be won.

If you can't make it to the dance, consider coming out to the Euchre tournament!

There is nothing in this world that is capable of fixing or taking away the pain of loss that has touched the lives of all those who knew Scott, but there is a way we can create a legacy in his honor. So please, if you can't come but would like to donate to this great cause, visit the Cooper's Troopers CIBC Run for the Cure page here to make a donation!
